Earthquakes are unpredictable and destructive. It is a calamity that no one can foresee.
Izmir, Turkey suffered from a powerful earthquake that left the city in shambles. Turkey’s Search and Rescue Operation did all that they can to save everyone who needs help, but there are some things that only a rescue dog can do. Bob, a German Shepherd, joined the team to help search for other survivors.
A two-story building had collapsed, and the rescue team hoped to save any survivors that they could find. They might have missed the poor cat if Bob didn’t sniff where she was located after 30 hours. She was stuck beneath the rubble, and she was scared. They pulled the cat out by the rescuer after Bob had confirmed her location.
Miraculously, after long hours of getting stuck, she was very much alive. She only suffered from minor injuries. The cat was terrified, and the entire body was trembling, caused by the traumatic experience. Aside from the feline, the rescuers also found a bunny and another cat.
The name of the survivor cat is Umut. It is a Turkish term that means hope. The cat was so hopeful while waiting for the rescue. Bob is Umut’s light of hope during her darkest moments.
The team immediately treats Umut’s minor injuries. She was also returned to her pet parent after they treated her. Thanks to Bob, Umut is now back safely to her mom’s arms. Bob may seem like a fierce dog, but he is very caring and even stayed beside Umut to keep her safe.
If the earthquake was traumatic for a person, imagine the fear of a clueless cat. That is why we must remember to get them first if ever an earthquake or any calamity happened. It was later reported that in the area, rescuers also found a bunny and another cat. Bob and Umut are living proof that cats and dogs can be friends.
