Being 50 pounds overweight is no joke, and for the German Shepherd named Tony, this was precisely the case. However, things took a surprising turn after Lee Asher adopted him and helped him live a healthier life.
When Asher first saw Tony in the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, he had already noticed how discouraged he was. It turned out that Tony was a stray dog, and then he got adopted but returned in the end. For years, he longed for a family who would care for him and a home that he could call his own.
When the furry pup nudged his head into Asher, the would-be adopter knew right there and then that Tony was the one. He wanted to bring him home and help him with his weight struggles. And to achieve his health goal, Asher encouraged him to be active.
At first, Tony was a bit shy, and he didn’t want to socialize with Asher and his eight other dogs. It didn’t take him long enough before he became more open and comfortable with everyone. But even so, he was still highly unmotivated to change his lifestyle.
Tony would just lay on the ground, without making an effort to interact with others, let alone move his body. He probably did not have the confidence to do anything or didn’t want to run around. Whatever his reason, it wasn’t enough to make Asher give up.
For two months, Asher and Tony worked out and trained continuously. And all their efforts paid off well because Tony lost all those 50 pounds. They then decided to visit SPCA to show the new Tony, and the staff couldn’t help but be happy about his remarkable improvement.
Thanks to his loving owner, Tony found a forever family while losing all those excess pounds. All it took was self-determination and motivation to reach his goal. Now, nothing can stop him from living his best life.
