It’s always a relief for everyone working at an animal shelter when someone comes in and adopts one of their rescue dogs. However, not everything ends up as planned for some of the dogs, especially when the people adopting them have no clue about owning a dog.
The staff and volunteers of an animal rescue group called The Animal Foundation were so relieved that one of their rescue Pit Bull mixes named Zion was finally adopted. They assumed that Zion will finally have a stable home with a family that will love him. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case.
A year after Zion was adopted, he was returned looking abused and malnourished. All the people who met Zion fell in love with him, especially the staff at Spencer Springs Animal Hospital. People who knew Zion got their hearts broken when they saw him.
When Zion was dropped off at the animal shelter, a woman named Kelly Winder happened to be at The Animal Foundation. She assumed that the man who dropped Zion off was dropping off a stray dog he found. However, she later found out that the man adopted the sickly-looking Pit Bull a year before and was returning him claiming that Zion was aggressive.
The man refused to sign any surrender papers and just wanted to leave Zion without talking to anyone. Zion weighed 60 pounds when he was adopted. When he was returned, he merely weighed 25 pounds.
Adding to his malnutrition, Zion also had sores all over his body, which meant that he slept on a hard surface, such as concrete for months. Thankfully, as soon as Zion was returned, an animal rescue group called Vegas Pet Rescue Project stepped in to help Zion with all his medical needs. They also made sure to blacklist Zion’s former owner from ever adopting or owning a dog ever again.
Zion eventually recovered thanks to the people who took him in and cared for him. He even received training classes, which will help him find a new home, where he’s loved and cared for. Zion is currently waiting to find a new forever home and this time, his rescuers are going to make sure that the next family who adopts him will really treat him like a part of a family. Here’s a video featuring Zion’s story.
