Rescuers encounter different risks when saving a stray dog. From passing vehicles on the street or rough terrain, these people brave a lot of things to bring a pooch to safety. Sometimes, they even come across unexpected dangers in completing the mission.
Eldad Hagar and Jackie Artecona didn’t expect the risk they’d encounter on a particular rescue. They joined Teresa, a concerned citizen who called Hope For Paws, to rescue a homeless Pit Bull. The dog wandered into a university, which meant it had a lot of wide-open spaces to run around on.
The rescuers spotted the dog upon arriving on the location. Jackie tried approaching the pooch directly. She, however, didn’t notice that there’s another animal she’s walking closer to.
Eldad, fortunately, saw what Jackie overlooked. He warned her about a coyote lounging near where the dog stood. Luckily, Jackie noticed the wild animal before it’s too late, and the coyote harmlessly ran away from her.
Triggered by the coyote, the Pit Bull ran as well. The rescuers followed, not wanting to lose the dog. They finally caught up to it on the university baseball field.
Jackie again approached the dog, this time offering it food to gain its trust. The pooch didn’t seem interested and walked away from her. Luckily, it went straight towards Eldad, and he knew he had to take advantage of his opportunity to catch it.
Eldad expertly snagged the dog using a gentle snare. Once secured, the rescuers walked the dog back to their car. A kind neighbor offered a big bowl of water for the pooch since it’s 100 degrees F out in the sun, and it looked exhausted.
The rescuers named the dog, a female, Brandi, and brought her to the hospital afterward. Brandi fully recovered physically and moved to foster with Doggie Bonez. She now eagerly looks forward to finding her forever home.
