When Zavod Pit, a non-profit animal rescue group in Ljubljana, Slovenia, received a notification about an abandoned dog in the park, volunteers immediately went to work. Tanja Vidergar, the lead rescuer, together with three more of her colleagues, wasted no second. They hopped right into their rescue car and drove straight to the site.
People who lived nearby said someone came and dumped the poor dog by the side of the road. When the rain poured, he found himself a shelter and hid under a bench. He stayed there and didn’t move at all in the hopes that his owner would eventually come back for him.
Once onsite, Tanja instantly worked on gaining the dog’s trust. She gave him food and encouraged him to walk with her. But the terrified dog wasn’t sure what she wanted at first so he refused to comply.
The poor dog, named Muffin, later on, was so skinny and weak. He had wounds on different parts of his body. He was wet and cold and he shivered uncontrollably.
Eventually, the rescuers lured the dog into the travel crate. Once they had him safely, they rushed him to the hospital for medical care. They also gave him a full meal and clean drinking water.
The vets revealed Muffin suffered from advanced Demodex mange. He needed daily medicated baths, topical ointment to help soothe his skin. And most of all, he needed lots of love to recover.
Muffin needed time to recuperate. Thanks to his rescue family, he got the medical care he needed. He felt much better as days passed.
He made little improvements at first but it didn’t take long and Muffin’s small progress became huge achievements. He thrived under the care of his rescue friends. And before long, he left and joined his new forever home. He started a new life and he was so grateful that he ended up with a loving family.
