Betty was a stray dog that lived in a small neighborhood in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One day, while she was on the road scavenging for food, a speeding car passed by and hit her. Despite knowing what happened, the driver didn’t bother to check the dog and just went on his way.
The poor dog was in so much pain. She couldn’t move so she stayed in the same spot where she fell. She cried and whined for help but nobody cared enough to lend a hand. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan spotted her and immediately knew he needed to call for help.
The kind man contacted Edina Pasic, a known rescuer in town. He told her what happened and she hurriedly drove to the rescue location. While waiting, he made sure to keep an eye on the dog and keep her from any more harm.
Residents told the man that Betty had been in such horrible condition for three days. When the rescuer learned this, she was horrified. She couldn’t believe they let the poor pup suffer that long before calling for help.
The man helped Edina carry Betty into her rescue vehicle. She thanked him for his kindness. And then, she continued to drive to the animal clinic to get the dog the medical attention she needed.
The vets confirmed Betty’s left front leg was severely damaged. Her pelvis was also fractured. But the good news was, her spine was left unharmed, which means she could walk again.
The doctors examined the dog thoroughly, and they looked for ways on how to save her leg. But eventually, they agreed amputation was the best and only option. It completely lost its function and trying to save it will only do more harm in the long run.
Betty’s operation was a success. She lost a leg but she found a whole new reason to enjoy life. Soon, she will start searching for her new home.
