Curtis Culver and his brother Cody are both avid outdoorsmen who live in Colorado. They love nature and plan a camping trip every year for just the two of them. They have done this for the past twenty years without fail.
Most recently, they had their most worrying trip to Grand County. One that almost became a tragedy.
Severe weather
Curtis and Cody meticulously planned every trip they took. In their last one, they knew there would be some snow while they camp and expected it to be around three inches. It was still manageable for them.
But the weather turned worse and heavy snowfall raised it to ten inches. They were scared that they might get trapped in the mountains and called for help.
Rescuers came after a short while, and a loud ruckus started as they yelled out to each other. Frightened by the noise and the arrival of strangers, Stella suddenly bolted for the woods nearby. She ran so fast that they lost sight of her right away.
The two brothers wanted to follow the dog, but the rescuers told them that it would be too risky for everyone. Curtis and Cody couldn’t argue with the responders. Begrudgingly, they left the mountains to get to safety. The rescuers assured them that they would go back for Stella when the weather was not so terrible.
Alone for five days
The rescuers waited, and finally, after five days, the snow stopped falling. They quickly formed a team and went back to the mountain top. They hiked for 14 miles, going back to where the brothers staged their camp.
Once they reached the site, it didn’t take long for them to find the dog. She stayed very near the place she was last seen.
The rescue team didn’t have a hard time catching the pooch and took her back to Curtis. He was so happy to see that his pet was fine despite what she had gone through. For their next trip, the dog owner is making sure that Stella will be wearing a GPS collar.
