A Labrador mix was featured in the news because of a shocking incident. The dog, who has an owner and frequently roams their neighborhood, was shot in the head with an arrow. Fortunately, the injury wasn’t fatal, and the arrow was successfully removed.
Unicorn
The dog, who was later nicknamed Unicorn, was known in their neighborhood to be friendly. But one day, while he was doing his usual routine, a 37-year-old woman, saw him peeing on her car tire and decided to teach the dog a lesson. She went into her house and took a crossbow and shot the dog in the head.
When neighbors saw the dog walking around with the arrow lodged on him, they immediately called the Nassau County Animal Control. Rescuers rushed to the location and took the dog back with them. When vets took a look at him, they discovered that the arrowed bounced off his skull and then went through his skin, exiting at the back. They also learned that he had other health issues, such as kennel cough and heart-worm.
Because of the costs of medical care, Unicorn’s owner decided to surrender him to the Nassau County Animal Control. Due to the pandemic, he is unable to shoulder the bills that would be needed to be paid. It would be better for the dog to stay with the animal control center, where he will get the best available care and treatment.
Nevertheless, Unicorn’s wounds have healed properly, and he is now taking medication for his other ailments. As soon as he is well, the animal control center will start looking for foster homes to take care of Unicorn. In time, he will find a new permanent home to stay in.
As for the woman who shot Unicorn, she has been arrested and was charged with felony cruelty to animals. Hopefully, more people will understand that dogs don’t deserve to be treated this way.
