Dogs can be pets, companions, or children in the eyes of their owners. They are also serious protectors, especially to their owners’ small children.
It’s like their way of returning the favor of the love and care they get from their humans.
Bentley, a four-month-old Golden Retriever, is an excellent example of this scenario. He is still a puppy, but he’s already exhibiting his defensive skills for his owner’s children.
What better way to show his concern than taking the kids to the bus?
Melissa Nixon from Amherst, New York, the owner, captured a lovely and heartwarming video of Bentley waiting at the driveway while her two children wait for the bus.
Bentley has developed the daily routine of walking Kylie, aged six, and McKenna, aged 5, to the edge of their driveway and retreating a few steps back then waiting for the school bus to arrive.
The bus takes a while to arrive, but Bentley patiently waits for it, and he won’t leave until he sees the girls climb aboard the bus safely.
In the video, McKenna is heard in the background, asking the puppy if he had put his kids on the bus. Then Bentley just gave a serious, dad look, like he’s proud of the girls but concerned about their safety.
Melissa shared that Bentley is mostly a cheerful and enthusiastic pup, but he switches to serious mode when it comes to sending the kids to the bus. It is quite admiring how much this dog cares for his owner’s kids.
Even when the bus driver says hi to him, he keeps a straight face and sits still, alert to the girls’ every move. When the bus finally drives off, he returns to his puppy nature, all goofy and playful.
Furthermore, the pup likes to hang out with Kylie and McKenna at the daycare center after school.
After posting the video on a Facebook page, Golden Retriever Club, people praised Bentley’s dedication to keeping the children safe. Others said that his story even made them love Golden Retrievers more.
Despite his young age, Bentley is already serving as an exceptional role model for all dogs out there. Kudos to Bentley!
