Owners need to be more attentive when walking their dog near a body of water. In a split second, their dogs may somehow get into the water and find it hard to go back to shore.
This incredible story will serve as an eye-opening reminder for dog owners to be mindful when they are out and about with their pooches. A pup in Spain nearly drowned after being stuck in a frozen lake. Thankfully, police officers braved the cold waters to save him.
Into the frozen reservoir
The reason the dog got into the frozen reservoir wasn’t disclosed. Nevertheless, the owner tried his or her best to reach the unfortunate pooch. The efforts, however, were futile.
Two officers of the Spanish police force rushed to the scene and jumped right into the action. They waded into the frozen body of water and started their mission.
A video uploaded to YouTube by Reuters showed the two officers staging the rescue; they stripped to their waist and dipped themselves into the icy water. In the 38-second clip, you could see one of the officers leading the operation with a long piece of wood. The other police officer was on standby to receive the dog that had been directed to swim towards him. Ultimately, the dog was brought back to safety.

How to keep your dog safe outdoors
It’s important to understand that not all pooches can swim. To protect your pup from drowning, there are some things that you need to remember.
First, make sure that your dog is always on a leash when you’re walking it near a creek, pond, river, or lake. If you have a swimming pool in your backyard, make sure that it is surrounded by a barrier, such as a fence. And if you really want to let your dog swim with you, you may want to put a life jacket on it. This shouldn’t be an issue since you can easily find life jackets for dogs online.
