Adopting a shelter dog means giving these creatures a second chance to live a happy life. All dogs deserve a good home and no dogs deserve it more than rescue dogs living in shelters. Most of these dogs never knew what it’s like to be loved or be part of a family.
However, have you ever heard of a rescue dog returning the favor by rescuing the very person who adopted them and gave them a forever home? A rescue German Shepherd named Sadie was considered an unwanted dog. Sadie had trouble getting adopted because she had issues dealing with men.
Sadie was already in her last shelter and if she doesn’t get adopted, there was a chance that she would be euthanized. Thankfully, a man named Brian Myers was looking for a dog and happened to come across Sadie. Brian learned that Sadie had issues around men but decided to give Sadie a chance anyway.
Brian thought that he could work through Sadie’s issues and help her learn to trust humans, particularly men, again. Little did Brian know that Sadie was going to repay his kindness when something happened that could have ended his life. When Brian stood up from his bed, he suddenly collapsed and realized that something was terribly wrong.
Brian was having a stroke and his phone was a few yards away from him. Sadie was his only chance and without any particular training, Sadie seemed to know what to do. Brian grabbed on to Sadie’s collar and Sadie dragged Brian towards his phone. Brian was able to call emergency services and was able to get to him on time to administer life-saving treatment.
Brian is thankful that Sadie was there and helped him. He can’t imagine what it would be like if Sadie wasn’t there to pull him on the floor to get to his phone. Although Sadie wasn’t a trained service dog, she knew what to do. Animal experts say that rescue dogs who have lived alone their entire lives tend to be extra loyal and bond better with the people that show them love and kindness.
Brian thought that he was saving Sadie’s life. However, it turned out that saving Sadie’s life will ultimately mean that he let a creature in his life that will save him from death or severe disability. Here’s a remarkable video showing how Sadie returned Brian’s kindness.
