Strollers at a beach in Oahu, Hawaii were shocked to see a man, wielding a machete, burying a dog alive. None of them could come near to help the pooch in fear that the heartless man would attack them. So they immediately called a nonprofit rescue organization for help.
Immediate help
Knowing that the situation was critical, the entire staff of PAWS of Hawaii rushed to the scene. The sheer number of their team scared the dog owner, who then ran away. The rescuers helped unbury the dog who was covered with heavy sand.
When they got her out, they saw that she suffered a lot of abuse. Her legs had deep cuts, most likely due to the man’s machete. The dog was also virtually hairless, her skin was covered with sores, and her body was swollen and sunburned.
The poor pooch, later named Leialoha, was quickly taken to a veterinary clinic where she was given immediate emergency care. She stayed in the clinic for a while receiving round-the-clock care. After a few days, she was released to the care of a foster parent.
For the next few months, she was shown lots of love and care. Leialoha had a fast recovery, and she was becoming beautiful inside and out. Despite all the abuse she received, she bounced back and became a sweet and sociable pooch. She is also playful and smiles all the time.
New home
When she fully recovered, her rescuers found her a good home. By that time, there were already a lot of interested adopters. They featured her story and recovery on their social media page, and she captured a lot of hearts.
Leialoha is now living with a loving family in Hawaii, and she has finally learned and experienced how it is to be truly happy and loved.
