Workers from Howl of a Dog, an animal rescue organization based in Resita, Romania, were on their way back to the shelter one day. In the car with them was Archie, a rescue dog whom they brought to a veterinary clinic for a checkup.
Suddenly, a stray dog limping by the side of the busy highway caught their attention. Of course, the volunteers couldn’t just leave him there, so they pulled over and asked Archie to be patient while they rescued his injured canine brother.
The dog tried to run farther into the bushes when he saw a rescuer alight from the vehicle. However, he quickly changed his mind and ran toward her as best as his limp would allow when she coaxed him to come near.
The animal worker notes that the emaciated dog seemed to have sensed that they wanted to rescue him. As the canine was desperate for help, he decided to trust them.

The rescuer named the pooch Vlad and petted him for a while, then placed a leash around his neck and got him in the car. Clearly, the poor dog was starving; he tried to eat a box of tissues he found.
Once Vlad was safe at the shelter, doctors ordered an x-ray of his injured front leg and found that the bones had snapped. It was highly likely that the mutt got the fracture after being run over by a vehicle.
According to the vet, the injury looked to be a week old at the very least. It broke the rescuers’ hearts to hear that Vlad had been enduring severe pain and hunger for that long, but at the same time, they were glad to have been able to give him a second chance.
Surgeons attached metal screws and plates to stabilize the bones and help them heal. With antibiotics, pain medication, and a whole lot of love, Vlad’s recovery went without a hitch.
In just three weeks, he became so much healthier. The dog also regained use of his fractured leg little by little. After a few more weeks, the playful and friendly dog was able to run around the yard again.
Eventually, Vlad went to a forever home in Phoenix, Arizona with a loving fur dad called Curt. Buddy, as he is now known, enjoys playing with his canine brother Gemini and hanging out with his family on the couch.
